We live a 40 minutes walk away from the Old City in Jerusalem and today we went for a walk in the snow, T, our neighbour D and myself. It was wonderful and we had such a great time. There weren't that many people out and about, and it was still snowing when we first went out. The snow was quite wet, and ironically, as the Norwegian I was worse dressed for wet snow than our Brazilian neighbour... But the walk from our house was great and we played with the snow a little, walked through the Old City and reached the Western Wall and the Dome of the Rock. See the snow on the Dome of the Rocks on the left there? Then we walked on, and by this point, let's be honest we were getting quite wet and cold. We went looking for an open place in a city which shuts down when there's talk about snow...
There were a few places open, but most things were closed and as the day went by we saw lots of people having snow ball fights and building snow men. As far as I know most of my friends had what's called here a 'snow day' - their office, school, university was closed because of snow. There is no public transportation operating, and most public offices are closed.
Here are the roof tops in the Old City, just outside the Austrian Hospice which was open despite the snow. (Remember we went there, Mamma and Pappa for great coffee?) We went in and had lovely hot chocolate and some of their famous apfel strudel. Delicious and warm! And then we de-dripped a little before we went out again and walked home again through the snow.
p.s. - they say it might snow even more tomorrow!
