Worries and good stuff too

First, worries: We are still waiting. Waiting to hear from the embassy. Waiting to hear that everything is ok, that all the papers are in order, that we can get work permits and leave Jerusalem and move to South Africa. Ironically our stuff has already arrived in Port Elizabeth. And here we were worried about it taking months before we would see our things... Well, I guess if we don't get work permits, then it will... But God willing it will all be ok, and we will get the work permits as soon as the South African consul to Israel is back at work after a long vacation....

Now for the good stuff: We get to see more great things in Jerusalem, like the new Israel Museum, where we went twice in the past two weeks. They have been renovating and extending the museum for the past three years and re-opened just 3 weeks ago. Things are still not fully up and running, like you can see from the lovely gardening in the sculpture garden... Here with the famous AHAVA (LOVE) statue in the back ground. One of my favourite pieces in the museum..

The second time we went to the museum the annual kite festival was being held there. It was so nice seeing kids and adults running around with kites everywhere. It made me think of my dad and our summers in Denmark, with running on the beach trying to make the kites stay in the air. And it reminded me of the summer we had no kite at all, and he got desperate and tried to make his jeans fly instead... So much fun!

While in Jerusalem we also indulge ourselves and have been seeing lots of our friends, eating out in some of our favourite spots. Oh, how I will miss this kind of spread with my baby chicken skewers!

We went to see the lights which have been put up for Ramadan in the Old City and in East Jerusalem. Yesterday when we walked home from the city centre, we looked towards Silwan, an Arab village, and it was blinking red, green, white and blue from all the lights which had been put up. Awesome!

With our extended time in Jerusalem we also got to go to the brit milah (circumcision) of the son of a good friend of ours. It was really nice to be able to be there, even if I didn't get to sit with T. Men and women sat separately for the celebratory meal afterwards as well as for the circumcision itself. Here you see the women (some of them at least) peeking in to the men's side. Sometimes separate seating is a real pain when I don't get to sit with T at weddings or other occasions where people might decide to do separate seating. But - it is always nice when there is somebody I know, and I can chat the time away with a couple of girlfriends without interruption! And thankfully, a good friend came to the brit milah and we had a lovely time chatting about all kinds of girly things! Hehe!

Now, back to waiting...
