Still playing tourist in the Old City

This time a visit to The Church of the Holy Sepulchre. I am as always fascinated with the candle lighting.

This church is a fascinating place with so much history connected to it, and it is a holy place to so many. Usually there is a very serene, intense atmosphere as pilgrims and locals alike pray, light candles and connect to their faith and the place.

One of the places within the church is the wooden structure within which Christians believe Jesus' tomb is. It usually a place where people are whispering their prayers. lighting candles outside, singing hymns and generally a place people are very quiet and respectful.

Yesterday we got there quite late in the day, around 8pm, and all one could hear coming from within was one of the priests who control that particular part of the church yell at the worshipers: "Finish! Get up! Get up! Next!!" And as the next person had entered and was presumably kneeling, whispering their prayers you could once again hear the priest yelling: "Finish!! Get up! Get up!! Enough!! Finish!!"

So much for the holy, serene atmosphere. I guess even priests want to go home and eat dinner at the end of the day. ;)

Kirker er ofte en veldig vakker plass å være, både arkitekturisk og sinnsmessig.

Ojsann, er dere fortsatt i Jerusalem. Ting tar jammen tid! Men du er flink til å bruke ventetiden synes jeg. Livet er jo der man befinner seg akkurat nå!
